Vienna VieVinum Wine festival a success

The eighth VieVinum wine fair held in Vienna last weekend was a raging success attracting 14.500 visitors from over 30 different countries to the Hofburg in the Austrian capital.

Every two years the VieVinum wine fair in Vienna showcases the best wine that Austrian and international growers and producers have to offer. Over 500 exhibitors from all around the world exhibited at Austria’s biggest wine event.

As well as top wine makers many figures from the gastro scene as well as the wine scene attended the event where there was a strong focus on Austrian wine which is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance of late.

A special focus was placed on Austrian wines from vintners in Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria as well as wines from Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia, Bulgaria Portugal and the USA.

From 2 to 4 June visitors had the opportunity in the dramatic Hofburg to personally meet the various wine growers, gain new insight into the industry from numerous experts and of course to get involved in some tasting.

The well sought after event was attended by Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer as well as VieVinum organiser Mag. Alexandra Graski Hoffmann and ÖWM Managing Director Mag. Willi Klinger.

Prominent figures such as sportsmen Michal Konsel, pro golfer Niki Zitny, tennis pro Clemens Trimmel, Colony Club owner Ernst Scholdan as well as the Mayor of Vienna Michael Häupl were on hand to taste the tipples on offer.

Since 1998 the VieVinum has provided the perfect platform to showcase Austrian and international wine producers, importers and distributors.

Managing director of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (ÖMW) Willi Klinger said, "Austria has succeeded in the last 10 years in taking a place in the international group of top wines. The high quality of our wine growers and the support of our specialist audience is therefore crucial. With such events we can greatly increase the emotional attachment to the wine-producing country of Austria."

High quality, Austrian food was also on offer at the fair. VieVinum have developed a strong relationship over the years with Viennese restaurants and pubs who, for a minimum of two weeks, nearer to the time of the fair, offer a special VieVinum Menu.

The next VieVinum has already been planned and will take place from 14th-16th June 2014 once again at the Vienna Hofburg.
