Vintner of the year announced
Wine grower Heinz Velich has been named vintner of the year at the bi-annual "VieVinum" wine congress in Vienna.
This year there were some 520 exhibitors with the undoubted star of the show Velich, who was selected by the editorial team at the magazine Falstaff as the vintner of the year because of the quality of his sweet wine.
The event takes place every two years at the Hofburg in Vienna where everything revolves around wine during the country's biggest wine festival and congress.
Velich said: "Of course something like this makes me very proud because it is praise from a magazine that is unique in Austria and outside of the borders. And when you see which vintners have received the award before it obviously makes me even more proud. It is also a thank you for all of the work that I have been doing over the years and which has now been recognised and documented through this honour."
The VieVinum is also open today from 11:00 until 18:00 in the Hofburg for anybody interested in good wines.
