Carpenter sermon causes heated debate
An advertisement for the reliability and quality work of Austrian carpenters that involves a priest talking about how great they are at Sunday mess has caused heated debate.
In the video the priest is seen asking the congregation who in the modern world can be relied on and dependable – and a woman in the congregation shouts out "the carpenters".
After a second's hesitation – the priest agrees and then extols the virtues of carpenters.
Despite the fact that Jesus was a carpenter the advert that was filmed in a church has not gone down well with many people where it was branded by some as tasteless and unnecessary.
The carpenter's organisation itself said that they were surprised about the heated debate.
Carpenter Anton Ulrich said: "I guess that reaction like this is what an advert is all about, if people are speaking about it then it's obviously been well accepted."
But nevertheless the campaign is to be stopped at the end of the year and the carpenters admitted it might have been a bad idea to have filmed it in the church.
In future the carpenters will also steer clear of religious related advertising, unless it's to promote a good cause.
