Ellis-Bextor On Stage at Salzburg Shopping Centre
British singer Sophie Ellis Bextor flew in directly from England to give a boost to the late-night opening at the Designer Outlet Salzburg - although with reductions of up to 80% it was hardly needed as it was almost guaranteed that it would be packed.
The singer turned up together with her husband and both ended up on the stage as "Me and Mrs Jones" - a DJ double act that they have performed since 2008. She said she was a huge Salzburg fan and had been to visit the Mirabell gardens and had had dinner in the M32 before going to the shopping centre.
There was plenty to entertain for those who were not tempted to shop by the special offers available – with a designer fashion show, styling lounge and photo shooting for visitors as well as live acts and much more.
Local celebrities also turned up, including footballer Franky Schiemer, the former speed iceskating Olympic medal winner Michael Hadschieff and footballers Thomas Winklhofer and Judoka Lupo Paischer helping to raise money for the children's charity Pro Juventute.
They left their handprints on the Walk of Fame together with Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
In September the Outlet Centre celebrated its third birthday. Since its opening in 2009 it's become one of the most popular shopping spots in Salzburg. It employs more than 650 staff and is therefore also a very important regional firm especially as 77% of the staff working there are from the Salzburg region.
And a third of the customers at the shops at the centre come from Salzburg, with another third coming across the border from nearby Germany. A quarter come from the rest of Austria.
But they are also hoping to build on the business from winter tourists – and are hoping to see a boost in customers from non-EU countries especially from Russia and the Middle East which showed positive developments.
