Therme Laa celebrates 4 million visitors in ten years
Twenty years after the discovery of a thermal water borehole in the Lower Austrian town of Laa an der Thaya, the site is celebrating a record numbers of visitors.
Unaffected by the current economic crisis, the health spa in Laa an der Thaya has welcomed almost 4 million visitors in the last ten years.
It is also receiving international recognition, with 34% of its guests coming from abroad.
Erwin Proll, the governor of Lower Austria (ÖVP), said: "From the beginning we set ourselves a goal to reach 300,000 visitors per year. Thankfully, ten years on we can say we’ve succeeded our target and in these ten years alone we have received over 3.5 million guests to the spa and between 350,000 and 400,000 guests to the hotel".
The region has benefited enormously from the spa. Ernst Wastler, the general director of healthcare giant VAMED, commented: "Annually, the spa uses 1.7 million Euro worth of goods and materials and 96% of these are bought in Lower Austria".
In addition, more than 200 jobs were created by the spa alone.
