Octocopter turns to TV
Two Austrians have developed a camera-drone to shoot hi res videos in every terrain and now want to use it to hit the film business.
The filming drone Thomas Kreuzberger and René Kiefer from Salzburg created is held in the air by eight little propellers and can shoot crystal clear moving images from up to 150 metres above ground.
A swivel camera is worked into the carbon shell of the 6-kilogram-"octocopter". René said: "Our passion has always been model helicopter flying, photography and filming. So we just thought one day, why not simply attach a camera to such a drone and take that direction professionally?"
Thomas added: "The drone has the advantage that it is relatively fast and flexible to use - even in rough terrain that is hard to access with camera equipment."
The development of the camera drone took the duo more than two years. They had to train themselves hundreds of hours to master the drone and the camera simultaneously.
The entrepreneurs opened an online shop in 2011 where they offer the camera drone and accessories as well as their motion pictures for films, documentaries, commercials and music videos.
Thomas added reminiscently: "I started on my first helicopter in Easter of 2004 and never stopped." Rene said: "I got my first helicopter in 2004. It was love at first sight. From then on things started to develop to where they are now."
