Illegal Hungarian dental advertising

A Hungarian dentist who has been distributing advertising material for his dental practise in the Austrian province of Burgenland is acting against medical advertising laws.

For a number of days the Hungarian dentist has been distributing the advertising prospectuses via a van, even though there are strict restrictions on the advertising of medical practises in Austria.

The brochures include pictures of the modern dental treatments on offer and vouchers which could be used in the practise. His van is also covered in advertising for the practise.

Herbert Haider, President of the Burgenland Dentist Association, said: "This is unfair and illegal advertising."

Dentists as with all doctors in Austria are only allowed to inform about their services and not advertise.

Doctors are only allowed to use a logo, homepage and sign on their door for information purposes. The laws also apply to Hungarian colleagues, but are not always adhered to.

The van was last seen in Purbach.

A lawyer for the Burgenland Dentist Association is trying to get the illegal advertising van banned.
