Tax agreement with Switzerland on track
Austria’s tax treaty with Switzerland is still on track, according to Finance Minister Maria Fekter.
Quizzed whether the Swiss will still carry on with the agreement in the light of a possible referendum, Ms Fekter assured a press conference that she was confident the pact would come to fruition.
The ÖVP minister said: "I don’t think the treaty will fail. There’s nothing to suggest that at all."
She added that she had always known a Swiss referendum on the issue was a possibility, saying: "That’s nothing new." And Fekter assured that the general feeling amongst their Swiss neighbours over the tax agreement was a positive one.
The issue of bank secrecy in Switzerland was also raised with Fekter saying: "I don’t have any concerns at all. I believe that after next year the money will be flowing between our two countries."
There has been speculation in recent weeks in Austrian media that the agreement will fail due to a looming referendum.
