Unemployment increase in June

Unemployment in Vienna rose by 7.1 per cent in June 2012 compared to last year 2011 according to the Vienna Unemployment Service AMS.

In June 2012 76,750 people were reported as unemployed and a further 24,522 were reported as being in training.

Winfried Göschl from the AMS said that the number of long term unemployed had declined by 56.9 per cent over the past twelve months.

In the age group under twenty there was a decline in unemployment by 7.7 per cent. But in the over 45-year-old category there was an increase of 6.1 per cent.

In tourism there was an increase of unemployment by 5.2 per cent and in the building trade by 3.8 per cent. In production it was reduced by 3.7 per cent and in IT and Communications there was also a decline of 3.2 per cent.

Last week social minister Rudolf Hundstorfer from the SPÖ made Petra Draxl, 52, the new head of the AMS.
