Bitter first six months for Manner
Vienna sweets producer Manner suffered a decline in turnover in the first half of 2010.
The tradition-rich company, which produces the world-famous Manner Schnitten hazelnut cream wafers, said today (Tues) turnover slumped to 72.1 million Euros year on year, adding that net profits edged down from 1.84 to 1.27 million Euros.
Manner said it expected the economic climate in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) to remain "tense" and demand for its products "low".
The firm said earlier this year its annual turnover dropped by 7.6 per cent to 155.4 million Euros year on year in 2009 due to price hikes for cocoa beans, sugar, flour, milk products, hazelnuts and other ingredients.
Manner employs 725 people after making 48 staff redundant last year.
