Salzburg job cull looms
Alarm bells are ringing at Salzburg workers’ unions as the city plans to axe almost 200 jobs over the next two years.
The city government headed by Social Democratic (SPÖ) Mayor Heinz Schaden said today (Mon) it wanted to save 10 million Euros by mid-2012. It also revealed that the plan was to cut 190 jobs by not staffing some positions in cases of retirement and laying off others.
Political decision-makers failed to reveal a detailed plan, stressing that they will do so in autumn.
Local media meanwhile speculate that the city might dissolve its rubbish collection unit and assign a private company instead.
