Mobilkom Austria's Belarusian subsidiary gets UMTS licence
Austrian telecommunications firm Mobilkom Austria today (Tues) announced its Belarusian subsidiary Velcom had been granted a 9.5 million-Euro country-wide universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS) licence.
The licence will be valid until 24 August 2017, the firm said.
Telekom Austria (TA), Mobilkom Austria’s parent firm, said today that the "roll-out" of a mobile broadband network was proceeding on schedule in Belarus, with 10 "basis stations" being outfitted with UMTS technology on a daily basis.
UMTS is the successor to the global system for mobile communication (GMS).
