Austrias highest and coolest cafe

This is Europe's highest building site - located at a cool 3,440 metres on the Pitztal glacier in Austria which is the location of what will be Austria's highest cafe.

A new ski lift is set to open this winter which will transport skiers up to the cafe.

Works are now being carried out in summer to ensure the project is finished. This means flying and driving up all the equipment needed for the construction.

The new lift will connect skiers to the cafe covering the two kilometre journey in just five minutes and forty seconds.

This will also be the first ski lift worldwide where you take your ski's and snowboards inside with you - which will make it easier to get in and out of the lift.

It is hoped winter will not make an early arrival and put a halt to the construction works.

The works began in summer 2011.

Stefan Richter, marketing manager of the Pitztaler Gletscherbahnen, said: "The planned cafe will be called "3440" and is located at 3440 metres. The cafe will offer a panoramic view over the alps.

The new lift and cafe is costing 20 million Euros.
